The Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia allows the incorporation of dental practices under certain conditions and under authority of Regulation No.5 of the Dental Act. Incorporation is under the Business Corporations Act.

Members are advised to obtain professional accounting and legal advice pertaining to their own circumstances.

Approval of the Provincial Dental Board is required before a member may practice as a corporation.

Application Process

  1. Satisfies the Registrar that the name of the corporation is a fit and proper name for a corporation engaged in the practice of dentistry;
  2. Make application for corporate registration with the Registry of Joint Stocks;
  3. Apply to the Provincial Dental Board for a Permit to provide care through a corporation. The Board has set a fee of $ 150.00 for processing each application, and this fee must accompany the application and the Certificate of Incorporation issued by the Joint Stocks. All applications will be processed as soon as possible.

Naming the Corporation

Approved corporate names shall contain only the surnames, or the surnames and any combination of the given names or initials, of one or more licensed dentists who are shareholders of the corporation.

Certified specialists may also include their specialty in the name of the corporation which must be in combination with the dentist's name, as the Board will not accept the name of the specialty alone.
